How would I use a Vision Pro if I had one? I would sell it and pay down debts. I used to get invited to the VR Lab at the Naval Postgraduate School in the early 1990s, in decades, VR has never delivered. It's come down in price, but never been more impressive than an egregiously expensive tech demo. Lightweight AR glasses at a low cost might be interesting, eventually. Google Glass certainly tried, and failed there though.

Vision Pro is locked-down because that's the business model Apple uses by default for everything. Apple will never ship any device "based on macOS" because they think macOS is far too powerful to build anything other than laptops and desktops out of. The Mac team sits off in a corner with its weird, mouse-only UI toolkit and UNIX baggage while the rest of the company makes velvet-flocked padded rooms and straitjackets for users to wear. It's getting to the point where the iPad team is hurriedly writing worse versions of macOS features to cover up obvious missing features so they can ship a laptop that competes with their own laptop and loses.

10:58 to answer your question ... I do have a Vision Pro and the simple answer is ... I don't really use it. Did some development on it when I first got it but found its APIs limiting... It sits in my closet now waiting for a bored weekend when I'll watch 20 minutes of AppleTV on there before ditching it and going to my 4K monitors. This thing is a novelty to a degree I did not expect. I think its weight and comfort are hands down the biggest problem for it. Every time I think "ooo I'll go do X on my AVO" I instantly think about how uncomfortable it is and just ditch the idea.

Apple hasn't got text anti-aliasing. They just force you to have absurdly heigh DPI displays so the text to looks decent.

its really a shame that they have not tilt adjustment on the headset. I really felt it dig into my brows when I was using it, just utterly uncomfortable for me. When using a quest I'll usually tilt the stra upwards a bit and itll fit mf face much more comfortable and not dig into my ears.

Passthrough warping on the quest has actually been fixed on V66

If i had a vision pro I too would use it for a couple hours and then probably return it cause it seems Apple created an over engineered solution to a problem no one really has

Apple doesn’t care about professionals, as we are niche. What is the point if I can’t run MD simulation or train a DL model in my headset. But those professionals would likely already have a remote server for their tasks. Tho, it is a shame that they couldn’t at least give us terminal for local tasks or ssh.

I'm still waiting for visionOS hardware to be smaller and cheaper, like the Meta glasses. At that point, there might be enough OS updates and features to justify the purchase.

Welcome back, glad you recovered <3 Also, if someone gave me a free Vision Pro…..after the first week of playing around it would turn into my multi-monitor workspace. Literally can’t think of anything else to use it for. Sadly, I don’t think this is a big enough market for meaningful change like what Apple did for phones.

I feel like the only thing I'd use a Vision Pro for is Disney+. Apple's rejection of open platforms and of gaming has doomed the Vision Pro as both of those things are what makes the Quest a success.

Siiighh this was a great and precise review. Personally I love my AVP, you’re not wrong when you mention its role as a consumption device. Listening to music, web browsing, video watching. All of which I thoroughly enjoy doing in headset. I think the big deal for me is that this headset has been habit forming all these months later I use it nearly just as much as day one. That’s a lot better than my Quest devices which at best devolved to Beat Saber machine come month 3. Glad to have you back!!!

I don't know what you mean by nothing to do. Using immersed, I have 6 giant screens connected to my 4090 PC for work from home. Dedicated slack app on the side, and can keep up with all my socials. I can do way more on a daily basis but all at the same time! Then watch any movie or youtube in a giant movie theater with a 500 inch screen. Do my meditation that I used to never do before and called it woo woo nonsense, but doing meditation in this has been god send and my pre sleep ritual has had a huge upgrade. Nothing to do? I always ask myself what CAN'T I do? lol. I also modded my apv and do not need the light seal so that removed so much bulk. ALVR just hit the app store. I was beta testing it and steam VR works wonderfully on it using the switch controllers. You can also use a base station with the index controllers as well. Once apple intelligence (I am hoping) comes on this, whole new level.

This video is like your helmet. Some people are glad it’s there, but others unsubscribed because of this uber late stupid video. Get well my man.
